A defining voice of country music and a modern day legend, Tanya Tucker inspired many female artists who still top the charts today. From the signature classic songs to the unforgettable sass and soul of her voice, Tucker has paved a path in country music and beyond through an unprecedented level of success and continues her longevity today due to a natural, undeniable talent.
In 1974, Rolling Stone ran a cover story on Tanya Tucker with the headline that said âYouâre Gonna Hear From Me.â Truer words have never been spoken. For four decades, her sultry voice and vivacious stage presence has helped to make her one of the most admired and respected female vocalists in the Country Music genre. Tanyaâs reign includes 23 Top 40 albums and a string of 56 Top 40 singles, 10 of which reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts. Along the way, she has provided some of the biggest country music hits of each decade, including, âBlood Red and Goinâ Down,â âWould you Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone)â and âTexas (When I Die),â just to name a few. Tucker is also the recipient of numerous awards, including two CMAs, two ACMs, and three CMT awards.
And, the best is yet to come for this future Country Music Hall of Fame member. With a new album forthcoming, the power house vocalist is set to remind listeners just why artists such as Miranda Lambert and Gretchen Wilson consider her to be one of their biggest influences. She's lived a life full of love and heartbreak, and bounced back no matter the odds. In the crazy world of the music business, Tanya Tucker defines the word "legend," but also "survivor."
Tanya's style has proven to be timeless ever since she recorded her debut single âDelta Dawn,â at age 13. The single earned a Grammy nomination for âBest Female Country Vocal Performanceâ and launched Tucker into the national spotlight during the beginning of her teenage years.
In 1972, she earned the âTop New Female Vocalistâ award by the Academy of Country Music. With a wildly growing career at such a young age, the Tucker craze continued with her first number one single, in 1973, âWhatâs Your Mamaâs Name.â
As additional hits continued, Tucker added an edgy rock image, which she still embraces, to her musical taste with the album T.N.T, which was released in 1978. The gold certified album peaked at number two on the album charts. Through a collaborative relationship with Glen Campbell, Tucker transitioned to a new label in the early 1980âs and was back in the Top 10 with âCan I See You Tonight,â co-written by hitmaker Deborah Allen (Patty Loveless). Just a few years later, Tucker experienced another hit with âOne Love at a Time,â co-written by Paul Overstreet (Randy Travis, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton). With four additional number one charted hits between 1986-1988, Tuckerâs career, nearly two decades already underway, was proving to be one for the record books.
The 1990âs gave rise to some of Tuckerâs most recognizable and career defining songs, âTwo Sparrows in a Hurricaneâ and âItâs a Little Too Late.â New albums, along with multiple versions of greatest hits and live compilation projects, propelled Tucker to become one of the best selling female artists in country music. With a 1994 Super Bowl XXVIII halftime appearance, Tucker was a household name to stay.
